Norma Kamali is one of America’s most original and unique, award winning fashion designers — known for her innovative and influential garments which have set the standard for all the biggest names in high fashion.
She’s won numerous awards and patents for her designs, including a Coty Award (the fashion equivalent to winning an Oscar), a plaque on the Fashion Walk of Fame, a CFDA Board of Directors Special Tribute Award and their Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Fire-Starter Award from Forbes in advocacy for women’s empowerment.
She’s also a Presidential Award recipient for her work and leadership in the industry, as well as receiving the National Arts Club Medal of Honor. Norma was given the Women’s Entrepreneurship Day — Pioneer Award at the United Nations and has received an honorary doctorate from her alma mater, the Fashion Institute of Technology. Her work is part of the Smithsonian and the Museum of Modern Art’s collections, and has been in numerous other museum displays, showcasing her designs and celebrating her career.
