Racing for Her Life: The Amazing Story of Ironman World Champion and All-American Sara Fix

Imagine excelling in the endurance event of being a mother of three. Then add to it getting into triathlons in your thirties and competing in more than two dozen Ironman distance races, and quickly ascending to the top of the triathlon world, racing in numerous events around the globe and earning multiple invitations to compete at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii — considered the Superbowl of Ironman Triathlons, and then finishing at an impressive 7th on several occasions and earning an All-American Top 10 ranking.

Add to all that, becoming an entrepreneur and founder of a triathlon club that mentors and trains aspiring athletes.

There is such a person, and her name is Sara Fix.

In an unimaginable twist to the story of Sara’s life, while in the open water swim of her 28th Ironman, as a warm up for Kona, the unthinkable happened. She started to drown and had to be rescued.

She wasn’t quite feeling herself that day, which as all athletes know, can happen from time to time during heavy training and competition. But she couldn’t get back…
